Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Facility

The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is located in Room 114 of the Grant Institute, School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh. The facility supports in-house research and provides a service to the earth and environmental science community as well as to all departments within Edinburgh University. The SEM is run in conjunction with the electron microprobe and ion microprobe units that together form a unique suite of analytical instruments.

[Sigma HD]

The SEM Facility has recently installed a new Carl Zeiss SIGMA HD VP Field Emission SEM and Oxford AZtec ED X-ray analysis and Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) system that greatly enhance the imaging and analytical capabilities that the Facility is able to provide for a wide range of applications.
