Research Interests: Current Research RiftVolc RiftVolc website focuses on the understudied volcanoes in the East African Rift valley that show recent deformation as detected by satellite images. Geophysical imaging of their current state and magma supply as well as their tectonic setting within the rift are among the main objectives of the program. Three-dimensional models from magnetotelluric (MT) data image the subsurface structure down to the lower crust and upper mantle in terms of electrical conductivity, a rock parameter that is sensitive to temperature, melt fraction, composition and the presence of fluids. Collocation of MT stations with seismic instruments and gravity measurements will allow for joint inversion of the data sets to derive even more precise models of the rift.
