Research Interests: Understanding the development and geological history of metamorphic rocks by studies of geochemistry, texture and phase relations in both crust and mantle lithologies. Melting, melt percolation, and melt crystallisation in migmatites and metasomatised mantle peridotites. Determination of partition coefficients for trace elements, and their use in tracking melt evolution. Ion microprobe studies of diamonds and their inclusions. The distribution of mantle rock-types and inclusions in diamonds and their relationships to mantle dynamics. Evolution of mountain belts with particular reference to the Scottish Highlands.
