Workshop agendas and minutes
The Lake Ellsworth Consortium is composed of a group of scientific and non-scientific staff from nine UK Universities, the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. International expertise is provided by members from the US and Chile. The Consortium held a series of meetings over several years whilst developing the proposal for direct exploration of Lake Ellsworth. Agendas and minutes for these meeting are available to the right.
The plan for exploration comprises four stages:
(1) A comprehensive geophysical survey of the lake and its locale.
(2) The development of technology, suitable for exploration.
(3) The physical exploration of the lake, involving lake entry, measurement and sampling.
4) The analyses of data and samples, to identify and understand life in the lake and to comprehend the climate record in lake floor sediment.
Fieldwork associated with Stage 1 has now been completed, and information on this is available here. Stages two, three and four are the current focus of the Consortium.
